SailGP: Germany in Canada on the Bubble
When SailGP Season 4 gets underway this weekend at Chicago’s Navy Pier, there will be a 10th team: Germany.
Erik Heil will be driving, and F1 star Sebastian Vettel and Tom Riedel of Riedel Communications as team owners.

Germany would have been the 3rd team purchased from Larry Ellison, who originally owned all of the teams, and wishes to sell them. Ben Ainslie bought Team GBR, and Fred Pye bought Team Canada, but reportedly missed the annual payment for season 4, so the team is once again on Larry’s list of assets.

TGL: The SailGP of Golf
Speaking of SailGP, Tiger Woods is creating the SailGP of golf. We didn’t know we needed indoor stadium golf made for TV, but hey, we didn’t know we needed the iPhone until we saw one.
This January, Tiger Woods and a long list of famous people ranging from Rory McIlroy to Steph Curry will be playing or investing in the new golf league: TGL. The 2 hour format, technology enhanced (playing in a giant simulator), star-fest is projected to launch in January 2024 - on Monday nights. i.e. Monday Night Golf.
The PGA is a minority shareholder.
The first team has been announced, and is owned by the Serena and Venus Williams and Alexis Ohanian. Each team will have three players and the Los Angeles Golf Club team has not announced their roster. Alexis is the founder of reddit, and is married to Serena Williams.

Mum is the Word from PGA Sponsors
Sounds like none of the PGA sponsors want to talk about the LIV golf deal. Much to MBS’s dismay, people still remember his role in the demise of Jamal Khashoggi.
Curious About Marketing Payment Policy
Curious About Marketing is a no cost* newsletter. It would seem like a bit of a waste for you to pay someone for this no cost* newsletter. So I don’t recommend it.
At some time in the future, I may change my mind and offer a paid version, or some additional features that would cost money. If so, I will change this statement at the bottom of each newsletter and clearly present the options.
You should feel comfortable forwarding this newsletter to anyone you think would like it.
Thank you very much for reading!
Sincerely yours, Jay
* this used to say FR**, but the use of the word FR** has landed this newsletter in some people’s spam folders. Or maybe FR** is a four letter word that starts with F? Anyway, thank you all for your patience as we figure out how to deliver the newsletter to you as friction fr** as possible.
